Evil

Evil is prevalent throughout LOTF we see it in characters even some of the good ones. We see evil in actions. We see evil in what is one the island. But through chapter 11 we see five big points where evil is present. The first being Rogers thoughts, action, and words; so basically Roger. The second is the lord of the flies and the swapping of butterflies to flies. The third begin the chant that Jacks tribe sings at their banquets which could be related to the beast for its about it. The Fourth is the Deaths and how they happen. Finally we see what Golding is trying to get across the entire time; the evil in us.

First Roger he is described as this sketchy murderer who smiles when he kills the sow the sign of adult civilization, or when he kills piggy he is said to have a grin from ear to ear. This is a truly evil and cruel begin, and when he speaks this doesn't go away he suggest that they beat poor robert with sticks for fun. Second The lord of the files, the description of this decaying pig's head on a spit that has flies exploding from it is not one that promotes good. To ad insult to injury Golding makes the head talk to Simon our symbol for kindness and and allusion to jesus in this daemonic tone, telling him you will die, by your friend's hands. The trading off of butterflies to flies in that area is a symbol of good's reign ending and evils turn on the throne.

Third is the chant that jacks tribe sings at all of their banquets it is Kill the beast! Slit his throat! Spill his blood! This chant is exclaiming that they want to kill the beast another symbol of evil, and to kill something is evil. To kill a being for fun makes the intention of these boys singing the chant and the chant itself evil. Fourth and the build up of the chant leads us into the killing of simon where the group of boys kills him in a brutal and evil way. Simons death was accidental though while piggy's was purposeful. Piggy was not doing anything and then Roger our symbol for evil hits him with a rock and sends him flying over the cliff. This death purposeful and roger doesn't even feel remorse about it neither does jack they both shrug it off and keep up their sadistic ways.

And last but not least is five, Golding in this book gives his opinion of what human nature is. I believe that he is saying with all of this evidence that human nature is evil. The only way to be the exception is to Reform your self. Notice the evil characters are stronger and last longer than our good character. Even ralph has moments of evil and cruelness. I think that most people think that humans are good. Yes per say they are when inside civilization but when you put anyone on a deadly island and force them to survive i think that the true human nature would come out. We are selfish, mean, brutish and EVIL creatures that is what Golding has said through his characters.

Semester Reading

This smelter has been a bit over whelming because to was hard to adjust to high school life i didn't get as much reading as i wanted to done. This quarter i read with was the shortest and easiest of the three I read. The middle book was The Power of six it is a sequel to one of my favorite books I am number four. And last but not least the longer book i read this semester was The rise of nine.

Next semester i would like to active reading more books at a higher rate. But i would also like to challenge myself to read more difficult books. That are longer and for a more adult audience. Next semester i would also like to read more often.

Review

So far this year in english i have done ok. But there are areas i need to touch up on. This is probably going to sound really bad with the literacy analysis around the cover. The topic i need most help on is the literacy analysis.

For the most part i am up to speed with the rest of the subjects. I may need to have a little review session of the short stories. Plus the fact that we haven't finished the Lord of the files book doesn't help any of us in that section of the exam.

Evil

So far in lord of the files we have seen evil in many ways, shapes, and forms. But the two that stand out the most among the group. Is through the beast and through the character of Roger. The first major form evil in the book is the beast. This is obviously  portrayed as a snake to show fear and evil. The snakes is offen associated to deception and evil. The beast in my opinion is a symbol of the evil on the island.

The second form of evil that is been revealed on the island so far is Roger. Roger in the forth chapter is shown throwing rocks near children. The reason that the author doesn't show him actually hitting the child was to show the small amount of a moral he has left. But he is throwing rocks at children which displays that he is the symbol of evil.

Reading Response

This week in my book we began to see conflict between characters that are suppose to be on the same side. A war is waging between to alien civilizations and two of the main characters are fighting. To make the matter worse it isn't over anything that is meaningful to their survival. This just drives me to a point where I wished i was there in the book to smack them out of their little fight.

Plus they don't stop at fighting with words. They take it outside and one of the characters almost kills the other. But has enough mercy to say i'll be the bigger man and let go. These people are to be in hiding and they chose a public place how more reckless can you be. Overall i think that this fighting should stop and the times of working together should continue.

6 vs. 9

This week i have moved on from my reading of the power of six to the rise of nine the sequel to the power of six. I decided that for this that I would compare the books. I will cop are them in the literary elements that each books uses that the other might not.

In the power of six the conflict has a lot more with person versus person, while in the rise of nine so far our main character has done alto of man versus self conflict. The power of six also uses a lot more analogies throughout the book to describe characters and actions. While in the rise of nine there is less of the analogies. But one similarity is that they are both great reads and i recommend them.

Free post

Since tomorrow is election day I would like to do something political for my post this week. I will not get into whose side is better. Mainly because it would start a riot. Though I would like to ask a few questions about how the whole process of electing a president works. I am not saying I know nothing about politics but I'm not saying I'm an expert either, so please no hate comments saying i don't know anything about politics.

So my first question is what would the country do if their were a tie between candidates. Have you ever wondered this if the country was so divided as to have a tie how would that be resolved. But that is just a what if scenario i don't think that would ever happen. I also have wondered what would happen if both the president and the VP where not in office who would take charge.

Short Stories

The three short stories I read were "Hills like white elephants" by Ernest Hemingway, "The sniper" by Liam O'Flaherty,  "Occurrence at Owl Creek"by Ambrose Bierce. I chose to  do the sniper beacuse i thought that it had a literacy trait that was important. This literacy trait is setting.

I think that this is an important trait because if we weren't in this area we would didn't have this brother vs. brother. The theme of this book is war can turn anyone against each other even Brothers.
I missed the day when we went over this in class and i am really confused about what exactly we are supposed to do. Though I get the basis.

Setting

For the story of Harrison bourgeon the literary element of setting is one of the most important factor to the story. Though there is was little about where they actually were. There was a lot of social setting. This was extremely important to the story.

This is true because if you didn't know that this place was meant to be equal then how would you know that HArrison was't just some jerk or that his father wasn't just some retard. SEe if you didn't know the setting then you would have never known that those people were created like that. You would have thought that they were just stupid and mean.

My Goal For Next Quarter

I think that my participation this quarter was fairly good. I took notes during all of the lectures that Dr.D  give in class. I missed few homework assignments. I follow through with most if not all of the providers we were required to do. But i do have room to improve like everyone always does.

This upcoming quarter it is my own personal  goal to become a bit more organized with all of my materials. To achieve this I must completely empty out my binder. Then put all of the documents back i some order. Wether it be  in chronological or  any other order. But that is my goal to have a more organized.

What Powers Would You Have?

When you were young you probably watched movies about super heroes.  And you probably got asked if you could have a power  what would it be. Well in the book I am reading The Power of Six which has many moments surrounding around powers. As i am reading sometimes I go back in time and ask myself that childish question.

What power would I have, when you think about it this question it is probably one of the smartest question a four year old boy can come up with. thIs question actually revels the inner most being. The  power that I would want would be is being able tho breath under water. Because I  have never  been able to swim well this would allow me to swim quickly.

Writing NOW

My life as a writer is now this year has become a lot more involved than in previous years. These blogging assignments are the main cause of this influx of  writing. I truly believe that this influx may help me improve my writing capabilities. For in the moment I am not the most advanced in literacy.

In the moment and in the past few year I have begun to realize that I am a writer who doesn't correct my writing well. I am a person who thinks that their writing is just fine the way it is. But as a future goal I and going to get better. I will begin to realize my mistakes. I will fix my grammar problems.

Plot Response

The book i was reading this past week was The Power of Six. This book is the sequel to I am number for. Both of these books have a very similar plot line. They both have rising action, a climax, and falling action. But in the Lorien series each chapter is almost like a episode that has its own rise and fall.

As the story progresses the episodes begin to fall into line building up to the overall climax. Once the climax has be reached the falling actions takes place there is not much falling action. The falling action is usually one to three chapters. These chapters are usually spent setting up the next book or explaining this one.

Our Music

This generation has had many a types of music: Dubstep, Pop, and Rap. These are all types of music that kids in this generation listen to. But some people claim that our generation of singers were the created of these types. But in a sense these are stolen music types.

These music genres originated from past forms of music. the most elusive form of thievery is rap. But the earliest forms of rap were in the 70s music actually contained some of the most primitive forms of rap. And dub step actually was formally called House music and was used in clubs when our parents were younger. An pop has been around for ages and has probably decreased in quality. In my opinion. So why don't we get our own types of music.

A Prominent Topic in Books

A prominent topic in the past books I've read  Is fear and fear of something or phobia.  This topic has taken many forms. The form of facing your fears. The form of forming fears. these all have to do with fear. In the hunger games Katniss has a fear of losing her family. But as the series progresses she gains more fears.

One fear she gains is the fear of Death. The fear of death or lack there of is prominent in main characters. IN the power of six number four is also afraid of death and this changes how the character acts in certain situations. This can change the entire story of the book.

W.R.A.P What the Heck

The wrap we have all taken it. It is  a writing assessment. i could tolerate other writings but the wrap always turns me off of writing. But the one that destroyed my toughest about righting was a couple years back in 6th grade. The "Creative Writing" assessment. I was ready when Mrs. Guarisco told us it was creative writing. Boy what was in store for me.

I got to english class and as we got pure topic i read mine and was like is this what real creative writing is like. but as time went on. I had just scribbled out a couple of sentences. I began to thing this isn't creative writing this is bad writing. Not the writing itself but the topic. so i was thinking is this all creative writing is . After that topic creative writing was bad and avoid creative writing.

What is a Hero

Easy a hero is a person who saves the day. Yes but a hero is more than that. A hero in a book is someone whom faces a physical and mental conflict in a book. Some one that over comes their everest. Some one who get to the zenith of their abilites and then pushes on. In hunger games in a literal sense Katniss overcomes an oppressive government and 24 tributes. But in a sense she overcomes fear, being a puppet, and the status quo.

But life as a hero doesn't seem all that great. In the Hunger games Being a hero is followed by broken relationships, death of love ones, many a sleepless night, and fame. Fame in my point of view is worse for a person because it puts them on a pedestal. Which many one thing is expected from them at all times. The affect of being a Champ of the games is nightmares of children murdered in cold blood for entertainment. An average nightmare would be like flashes of moments in the games most likely of those you saw die from your hands like maybe a child laying flat in a field the blades of grass waving in the wind and when your entity gets closer you begin to see a more defined boy with a arrow covered in splattered blood jutting out from his side a pool of crimson ink-like blood oozing from the point of entry. Is it worth it.

Do You Have The Skills

One of the main themes of this trilogy is the effects of killing some one and Katniss's struggle to try to stay pure. This got me thinking if it came down to it would I? In the book it makes murder seem like a smooth flawless thing. In terms Simple. This thought was so ignored by readers that I talked to that is almost disgusting. Murder smooth who thinks this not the average human. And definitely not me.

So I decided to take a stroll in Katniss's situation but with my mind set. I thought that I would have just sacrificed my self my just stepping off that platform before the start. But I thought of my family at home watching this they would want me to fight. But the closer I became to the moment the decision to pull the trigger. I thought that no I can't and won't do it. But in the heat of the moment the middle of a battle, staring into the fiery eyes of death. I would think that some thing in my human nature would click and pull the trigger for me. Over the history of this Earth many of people have be kilt by others so what gives them the drive. Is it human nature I don't know. Or maybe just the fear of death.

P.S. Reply in the comments about your thoughts on if you would

Strategy Games

In my opinion I think that games like Risk and Stratego are some most difficult games I have ever played. Being for many reasons one is that your have to think like your opponent. And that is depending on your opponent can be extremely easy or impossible hard. But there are so many variables that you have to add in that i is almost impossible to figure out what your opponents next move is going to be.

But if you are playing a game were you can have multiple opponents that can change the way you play the game completely. Because if one person has a built up his defenses and you haven't then your other opponents will see that you are weaker the your opponent and try to kill you for your troops  so they can build up. And if it isn't your turn then your done for.  Most people who are going to try to wipe some on out will most likely spread them selves thin and leave the selves open to attack from their overpowered opponent and that will most likely wipe the person who wiped you out. Strategy games in my opinion is are one of the hardest type of game i have ever played.

Broken Limbs and World Domination

We had friends over the wind was whipping through the leaves of the trees. I was on the defensive and was defending Asia in a game of Risk. As the wind was ripping through out the land. My armies were ripping thought Europe. But as the imaginary solders were conducting the fake wars my mind began to travel there hearing the miniature bombshells roar across the plains of Russia. But then I realized that the last boom was not in my head.

But could that be possible or was i going crazy no it had to be fake. I looked around  for any faces that said did you hear that too but was met by none so we continued to play. As my turn came to a conclusion my mom erupted into the room saying that a tree had be hit. But hit by what lightning yes. That was the boom that i had heard half of a tree had fallen in my backyard the war lords and generals of the war council rises and went to check the damage luck ally it hit nothing important. The rest of the world fell into my control as if it had be struck by lightning.

Would You Volunteer?

If your sibling was chosen to go to the Hunger games would you volunteer to take there place in the games? I know what most of you are saying to your self yes of course. But come on if given the chose to most likely die in a brutal game or to live what would you chose? I tell myself that i would go but deep within I know that i would do as most likely keep calm and carry on. this thought that ya i would volunteer is a thought that pro tests our pride in ourselves.

What Katniss and Peeta did in the Hunger Games and Catching Fire was amazing. Also a tad inhuman, human nature is the thing that tells us before it happens ya I'll go for a friend or family member. But it is also the thing that makes us hang back and stay in the crowd and keep your head down. But the ability to over come that sense is within itself the most courageous thing you can ever do. Give yourself up for others.

Panem's government vs. U.S.A's government

Panem and the U.S have a few things in common like their location, they both  have a capitol city, they also have a large military force. But they have many more things that are different like their civil laws. Panem and the U.S.A have a many things that are totally opposite in how they run their country and how they treat their peoples.

The U.S.A gives all of its citizens fair chances and the citizens choose who runs the government. Panem treats their  lower class citizens like slaves and the President of their country is not chosen  the by the public but by the wealthiest people in the capitol. But in some cases they are the same their head leader is called a president their labor force are their citizen. Money is one thing of the thing that brings us closer in similartites. I Panem money is divied unequaly the capitol's citizens have all the money while the districs have little to no money. In the U.S.A were you live has little to no affect to the amount of money you earn. Yet we have Wealthy people and the middle class and the lower class. So in a sense we are very connected while very different.

In the Defense of Stolen Sleep: A Night Owl's Manifesto

The First thought that must be going through your head must be Stolen Sleep what the heck is that. I heard of stolen pencils, stolen money or even stolen ideas. But stealing sleep never heard of. Well stealing is something i have never done with the exception of sleep. Stolen sleep is (by a definition from a friends parent) the act of waking up to turn off your alarm, getting dressed for school and then go back to sleep "stealing" more sleep before the bus.

Stolen sleep is most common among students with difficult classes and sports after school (a.k.a. night owls) these student have this habit of stealing sleep due to the amount of home work assigned each day. But some students are able to control their time I am not one of those students. So stealing sleep is one of my most routine hobbies. Can cause students to miss the bus maybe a few times causing them to then get detentions and on and on.

As you can see this small nap will turn into many colleges or workplaces don't take you in because you have a suspension and many detentions on your permanent record. So as parents have always told you never to steal something. I would say don't steal sleep in the moring but to get you work done earlier in the evening.

In the Defense of In the Defense of Food

In the Defense of Food I have to say is not a book for kids our age. But after the slow and boring introduction it actually gave us us extremely important facts on how to monitor our eating. Which for our generation it is critical for us to monitor our eating. I actually thought is was a very informative read. After I read the book I thought wow I've never know this much about food. I thought that the information was so helpful that when my mom and I ( she read the book to) go to the supermarket we imply his rules about buying food. We also imply his rules at the table.

But there were moments of the book were I was like duh that is common sense. Along with moments like god how have we let our country's diet go to such a bad state. I thought that all he had to say was go out and join a sport or walk for 20 minutes a day. But other than those reasons I thought it was a good read. But your inclined to your own opinion.

Who am I?

Hi I'm Cameron and this is my blog. For my first post of many I would like to tell you about myself. I haven't ever use any social networks and I haven't ever been on a blog before so I am not in my kingdom of technology at the moment. The reason for never having gone on like Facebook or Twitter or Instagram is because they in my mind are a waste of time. Hey but its ok to waste time from time to time. I waste time all the time so who am I to judge.

My favorite thing to do is to hang out with my friends i didn't get to do much of that this summer but i hope to change that this school year.  Speaking of school we starting High School only four years left but they say this year is the hardest so study study study. Ya that one thing about my I am a hard on myself when I didn't get the grade I want because I know I didn't try as hard as I should of. I am an avid reader but only of fiction or fantasy. I also have two pets one cat ( the size of a cougar) and a sweet an lovable dog. One of my goals for this year is to have a 3.8 GPA and to become one step closer to being bilingual.
